Welcome to Bucknell Maths, a maths program that can really help your child
to make progress and to grow in confidence.
The
system was written by Mike Bucknell, a leading software developer. With five
children of his own, Mike was well aware of the need for children to practise
work they have covered in school in order to be confident and ready to progress
to the next stage.
Below are some of the reasons why the team at Bucknell Maths feel you might
find this software beneficial to your child:
- Your child's personal tutor, a qualified teacher, will set work appropriate
to his/her needs. These may be to reinforce learning in order to gain confidence
and achieve good levels in Key Stages 1 and 2, or prepare for entry to your
child's next school.
- The tutor can be contacted by email or telephone should any problems arise
or any issues need to be discussed. It is also possible to ask the tutor
to set more work in any particular area with which the child may have had
difficulty.
- The system contains an almost unlimited number of self-marking exercises
covering the whole of School Years 1-6.
- The content closely follows the Primary Framework for Literacy and Mathematics
which is currently being used by most schools in the UK.
- Bucknell Maths has been developed in the UK by teachers and maths experts.
Much attention has been paid to ensure that the work excites and enthuses
the children rather than just provide them with rote exercises.
- There is an incentives scheme which awards children with points and stars.
This gives you, the parent, the opportunity to set a target number of stars
or points for your child to achieve in say a term or half-term when a special
reward might be given.
- Should your child not have covered the mathematics required to complete
an exercise, he/she can press the 'Postpone' button to tackle the exercise
at a later stage.
- This program is child friendly, offering the opportunity to personalise
the system which children enjoy doing.

Just a glimpse into a few of the more than 2,500 exercises which can generate
millions of questions, so each practice will be different.

The
system costs £20 per month, paid by standing order (see below). For this you
will be assigned a teacher as personal tutor and the use of a Bucknell Maths
memory stick. You can cancel the standing order yourself at any time by contacting
your bank.
The system is extremely easy to run. No installation is necessary, simply
plug the memory stick into the USB port on any PC (Windows XP or Vista) and
Bucknell Maths is ready to go.
No internet connection is needed to run Bucknell Maths. However work and
results are sent back and forth when required via email.
Your tutor will help you get started and answer any questions.
